I recently stumbled across this verse in my personal devotions.
“Teach them God’s decrees, and give them his instructions. Show them how to conduct their lives.” Exodus 18:20 NLT
I don’t think I’ve noticed it before because my eyes rush to the more famous verse. The next one along…
“But select from all the people some capable, honest men who fear God and hate bribes. Appoint them as leaders over groups of one thousand, one hundred, fifty, ten.” Exodus 18:21 NLT
This is lifted from the account of Moses’ father in law, Jethro, advising his son to delegate more effectively. Even today we call this practice “Jethroism”
Jethro’s first advice, however, is towards Moses and how he conducts himself. Many jump on the bandwagon of delegation but there are some things that cannot be delegated…
The bible is foundational to any leader who chooses to follow Christ. You must mine it yourself so that it becomes part of you. You eat and breathe it. It lives in you to the extent that when you teach others these truths, it’s a living testament.
Generosity must be central to all our endeavour. We all know the famous scripture, John 3:16? “For God so loved the world that he gave…”
We must be known for our spirit of generosity. Give what you have away! I am blessed to be a blessing!
Live full. Die empty.
You are a model. Long gone are the days of do what I say. People are looking for examples of integrity in life. Not perfection, just honesty laced with a desire to grow!
As a parent, spouse, minister, leader, employee, employer leave the curtains open so others can see how you live.
As a citizen of this city, this nation, model a Christ-like-ness in your everyday business.
Before you ask someone to do something, are you first taking responsibility for your own soul?
Live big and live well and others will call you blessed.
