‘Going’ and serving will change your life!

The recent Sunday teaching series on ‘the 5P’s’ has really encouraged me to think about the part that international mission has played in my own personal development over the years – it has stretched me and helped me to grow as a disciple of Jesus – being able to serve alongside Christians in other countries has opened my eyes to things that God is doing all over the world, and has certainly given me a wider perspective on world church. That is why I would encourage every member of One Church to seriously think and pray about ‘going’ and serving somewhere in the world – it will change your life!

Our One Church international missions programme is designed to provide a wide range of opportunities for members of any One Church expression to get involved in a range of different areas of service.

Our 2014 programme is well under way with the first trip of the year taking place on 21 February when the !Alive kids work team set off for Liege in Belgium to lead a weekend of children’s meetings at Go Generation church supporting our good friends Lauro and Rosane Castelli.

As in previous years, we are running 3 trips out to Belarus – April, May and September. The May trip is our fourth Flourish trip; an opportunity for the women of One Church to directly support the foster mum’s connected with Top Kids. Both April and September will have a more practical focus helping with the ongoing renovation work on the family centre. There are still spaces on the April and September trips, so if you are interested please contact the Church Hub ASAP.

Members of our worship and intercessory teams are flying out to Austria in May to help Life Church in Villach with their preparations for planting a new church in a nearby town. The team will be leading worship meetings, getting involved in intercession events and prayer walking, and leading church services and music workshops – there may even be a bit of ‘yodelling’ going on!

I’ve just booked 7 rooms for 8 nights at the Crocodile Motel in Rusape, Zimbabwe – it was a snitch at £28 per person, per night B&B – hardly UK prices! A team of 7 will be flying out Zimbabwe in August to support the annual conference run by Kennedy and Prisca and the members of Revival Grace Fellowship in Rusape. We also plan to run a community outreach event which builds on the sports day that we ran back in 2012. It will also give us opportunity to visit a number of local projects that have been started by Kennedy over the past 18 months and which are aimed at helping some of the people in the local community tackle issues related to poverty.

This is the first year when we have run 2 ‘long haul’ missions trips – at the same time that I am leading the team in Zimbabwe, Ally Jarvis will be taking a team of 12 mums and daughters to work alongside mums and daughters who live and work the rubbish dumps of Manila in the Philippines.

So, a busy year on the International front – and to cap it all, this year all of our missions partners will be flying in to join us at the ‘We are One’ conference in October – now that’s an event not to be missed…

Finally – what about you – when will you go? What about Belarus in April/September 2014 – or why not set a goal for 2015 – watch this space for our 2015 programme.
